Claremont is a humble rural hamlet in the north end of Pickering. The majority of its population is bulit around Central Street west of Brock Road, extending further north along Old Brock Road. Claremont Public School is the only school located within the community, though the office of the Durham District School Board is located just a few blocks away. Much of the surrounding area is occupied by farmland, leaving Claremont as a very close-knit pocket of community spirit surrounded by greenery -- or by white in the winter, when the Claremont Winter Carnival takes place each year including a variety of events and contests.
